Living Legends Planting Event – 2012

Otatara Landcare Group invite you to join Southland rugby legend Kevin Laidlaw and the Department of Conservation for this years Living Legends planting project. This year’s planting is to be held on 1st September 2012 and is the second year of the three year programme. This event follows last years successful project when 5000 seedlings were planted at the Bushy Point restoration site in just over one hour. This year you will be able to help us to plant another 2,500 seedlings and help see this area continue to be restored into a thriving community asset. Come along, bring your children, parents, friends and neighbours. Make this another successful community event. Register at Living Legends to make sure you get a feed at the sausage sizzle!
Living Legends was established in 2011 to celebrate and leave a living legacy to New Zealand’s hosting of the 201 rugby world cup. It is a national project being undertaken at 17 sites throughout New Zealand – all the locations that hosted rugby world cup matches. Living Legends is a joint venture between Project Crimson, The Tindall Foundation, Department of Conservation and Meridian Energy.
Southland’s Rugby Legend is Kevin Laidlaw. Kevin was born and raised in Nightcaps. He was a very accomplished second five who played 17 times for the All Blacks including 3 test in 1960. He also played 59 games for Southland and later became the Southland coach in the 1980’s. Kevin will again be present at this Living Legends planting. So here is your chance to meet one of Southland’s greatest ever rugby players.
