2009 is a year in which residents and ratepayers of Otatara have the opportunity to have significant input into the way our area is managed for the next 6-10 years. There are a large number of questions being posed in the next few months, including
- Representation: Is Otatara adequately represented in Council? What are the options and are there changes we would like to see made?
- Planning: How do we want future development in Otatara to look and be managed?
- Services: Are the services Otatara has now adequate and what might we need in the future?
- Environment & Lifestyle: How do we protect and manage the aspects of the Otatara environmentand lifestyle we value?
The OCG will advocate on behalf of members on these issues. We will collect and collate member's opinions by polls & surveys, having general meetings members can attend and by organising public meetings. In order to have your views represented by the OCG, you must be a member!
About OCG
The Otatara Community Group (OCG) is an organisation which purpose is to represent our members on topics of interest relating to Otatara such as road safety, development, infrastructure, preservation of flora and fauna, etc. We do this by consulting, liaising, facilitating, informing with and on behalf of our members.
We were established in early April 2008 and during our first short year we have:
- Organised how we would operate,
- Started reviewing a constitution (what and how we represent our members) with a view to becoming incorporated,
- Liaised and made submissions to the Invercargill City Council on issues that affected the community,
- Surveyed the Otatara residents for their opinions on the community
- Set up a website (www.rd9.co.nz) to post news and items of interest to the community
- Organised meetings in Otatara so people could be informed of the proposed Mataitai at Oreti beach.
However there is a cost to representing our members, e.g. stationery, postage etc, and to fund these activities, we are for this financial year, charging a small $5.00pa for a single person or $10.00pa for a family.
As a paid-up member you will be able to have a say in our activities; we have a regular monthly meeting on the first Thursday (usually) of the month (Wed 04th February is next) as well as forums and member's information on the website. Some information is blocked for non-members.
I invite you join for this financial year and have enclosed a membership form & a postage paid envelope for your convenience. Alternatively feel free to drop it into my mail box (16 Vyner Road).
If you would like more information or have any queries you can either contact me (email: frankdean@slingshot.co.nz or phone: 27 433 1040), visit our website (www.rd9.co.nz) or come to our next meeting at the Otatara Community Hall, Wednesday 04 February, 7.30pm.
